Thank you to Stefan Oelermans, Patty Coons, Ben Pickford and Leigh Campbell,
A hot evening, 23 degrees with big breeze, swimming was a theme that would be visited by everyone and for most, often. RC off the shore but it meant for a very fast short runway after crossing the finish line. A few of us, (All) hit bottom during the prestart.
9 boats, 5 fast races .  It is important to remember some very important critical things, not just when you are racing in a group but also sailing by yourself. Always hold onto something on the boat, especially if your are going to do a death roll, a windward capsize on the run at top speed. It is very difficult wearing lots of clothing and kit to swim to or even stay with the boat when you are separated. A few years ago we had a Team SK sailor decide to do some sailing by herself, she got separated from the boat, and if it was not for a fisherman having found the boat and then driving upwind, it could have been an even longer then 4 hour experience. Sail with a buddy, tell others where you are going, start your training upwind, and hold onto the boat are good rules to follow. You need to consider that you will most likely be doing a self rescue!!

After racing everyone stayed out a reached around, this day was almost exactly like a strong south wind at Redberry. If we did not have to pack boats for Wabamun, we would still be reaching around.

Thank you to Stefan Oelermans, and Leigh Campbell,
A little cool even by some previous standards, hiking breeze from the North-west and a start line off the hill. RC tried to use an I-pod for timing, it was mostly adequate, some of the starts. Heart rate monitor, I-pod, next race we will use a cell phone.
6 boats, 5 races and very good racing and mingling with the fleet , in spite of the issues with feeling the rope or hiking strap. After taking the boats off of the trailer from the Regina trip it was back to more frostbite sailing. This type of sailing requires very deliberate and thought out movements, because……….its cold . Kristine sailed with the SK Race Team boys’ crew, Jordon, showed very good speed and boat handling, Kristine with a dry suit, Jordon with diving gloves and pink spandex. Matt with his sore back and no watch was in most of the races, and then did some free sailing after racing was done. He obviously likes to be in a boat, even when ice build up is a factor. He had a dry suit as well, but his hands and feet were very pink at the end of the night. Ilia won race 5 start with a stellar high speed reach approach. Jamie Hogan, fresh off of her 3 first place race finishes at the Canada Games………12 years ago, was out for her first evening. She tried some old school rigging, mast raps, that has yet to be proven effective. Jason Boyd rigged the club boat in the eye of the breeze. Perhaps not the nicest evening for the first sail of the year. It is safe to say if it was not a race, we would not be near the lake, unless we were chopping wood for the fire.

I was proven wrong (again) with the comment after opening night racing, were I guaranteed it would be warmer soon/next night. It might be warm for the weekend.

Thank you to Dick White, Stefan Oelermans, John Barry and Patty,
Crappy forecast, excellent conditions, sunny, hiking breeze from the North, start line off the beach. Did not know if the sailing would be good when leaving Saskatoon at 3:00!! The original plan was go out and if too poor, load boats for racing Regina this weekend!!!
7 boats, 5 races and very good racing and mingling with the fleet. Matt Monias started off very well with good start and speed in Race 1. Ilia Rudnitskiy had very good speed up and down the track being top laser in Race 4, and top laser at parts of race 3 and 5. Home Depot service guy extraordinaire Payton Byrns is taking a page out of the Stephen Huszar program, high activity/high function. Had the perfect start and then had an issue with the scope on the start mark. The women’s 29er KT, had a strong evening with boat handling and speed, the only drama being a jibe/dump on the finish line. The boys KJ, were getting their starts figured out and had moments of brilliance.
KJ did some free sail at the end of racing to flush their boat issues. Ellyn Byrns was out in the international Opti and was heard commenting on the heat absorption qualities of aluminum vs carbon. Coach Lammens
