Opening Day Commodore’s Report

Uncategorized

We had a good opening day for the beginning of the season. We started the day with clear skies and 7celcius with a breeze blowing from the south. Later in the morning the wind picked up and as the air warmed up made a very comfortable lunch break. We enjoyed temperatures into the 22celcius range by early afternoon and wind increase to the north creating small caps on freshly opened water. New members were able to attend opening day and were a welcome sight as we had a full agenda for work to be completed.
We have a new sign on the drive in to the facility. As well the sign on the clubhouse has been repainted and looks great. In addition some members were able to get the rescue boat on the water and test out the newly maintained engine and take it out for a test run in preparation for the sailing races soon. Some of the inactive boats on site were moved to a less active area for storage…

FYI – Ice on the Lake

General Information

John Barry Writes:

FYI – I did a trip to the lake today and am reporting lots of ice present.  There is a 6-8ft melted rim around the lake and the rest is still very frozen and showing no signs of cracks or breaks in the snow pack.  I see standing water over about 5 to 10 % of the surface.  I would bet there will be lots on opening day.

Thanks for the Work Party help!

General Information

It was a light turn out on Saturday for the work party, but some of the main jobs did get done. Thanks mostly to Warren White, our Harbor Master, with help from Brian McSheffrey (our Secretary) and member Darcy Rousell for getting boats moved and the dock pulled out of the water. Not to mention the part where they disassembled and reassembled it in the correct orientation for next season! Otherwise Warren wants to remind everyone to store your boats properly for the winter so no frost or wind damage occurs. Also make sure to clearly mark all masts stored in the club house and please use a small label to indicate your locker!

Corn Roast, Sunday August 24th!

Racing

BSSC will be holding it’s annual Corn Roast this Sunday, the 24th of August.  Corn will be roasted at 4:30PM.  Bring your own BBQ supper and we’ll provide the corn.  During the afternoon prior to the feast, informal racing will be held for anyone who is interested.  Or if you’d rather not race, just come on out and join us for a Sunday Sail!

See you on the water!

Sunday Afternoon Sailing at BSSC!

General Information

Summer is so short and what better way to really enjoy it than going for a sail on Sunday afternoons!  Join other club members at Noon every Sunday.  Rig your boat up and hit the water for a regular afternoon of sun and fun in the great outdoors.  Bring you family and friends and something to BBQ too!  If you are concerned about safety when sailing alone from the club, this is your chance to sail knowing that someone is watching and there to help you should the need arise.

First Sunday Sail will be July 13th and every subsequent Sunday thereafter through until the end of August.
