What makes for a good race and regatta and how to do it.
If you work on the water at your club regatta, or are interested in doing so, this CYA seminar will be helpful. The presenter will be Peter Van Muyden, International Race Officer (IRO), from Edmonton. Peter will deal with the theory and practice of race management.
The course will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27, 2011, at the Sports Centre, 510 Cynthia Street, Saskatoon. We will start at 9:00 AM and continue to around 5:00 PM. Pizza lunch will be available.

The cost is $15.00 for the one-day seminar and $30.00 for two days. Please notify Mark Lammens, 306 975-0833, sasksail@shaw.ca of your intention to attend as soon as possible.
Congratulations to Sydney Byrns of the Blackstrap Sailing Club, who was recognized as SSCA Lauri Olenius Sailor of the Year. Byrns won the Western Canadian Championships as well as District 5 Race Series. Sydney is presently in Malawi, Africa working with Engineers without Borders.
Congratulations to Leigh Campbell of the Blackstrap Sailing Club who is recognized as the Debbie Holgate Volunteer of the Year. Campbell was recognized for all of his work with BSSC, SSCA, 2 Western Canadian Championships and the Canada Games.
Ben said he brought just enough wind with him from Saskatoon so we could compete (just enough wind for about 3 boats, of 13). Ben, Lewis and Tanys were usually at or near the front of the pack tonight. Big ups to Patty and Sydney for running races! Subtotals from the whole series have been calculated. Awards will be
handed out next week. J.
Well, the wind forecast didn’t live up to its promises. We did not get NE 30 km/h, apparently we got easterly winds from 24 to 27 km/h. I am not complaining, because we also did not get rained on (as promised). It was nice, whatever we got. Thanks to Mike Hesseltine and Leigh Campbell for doing Race Committee. Blackstrap Sailing Club membership consists primarily of sailors and their families who love recreational and competitive sailing. Our sailors are active in regattas at our club as well as other clubs in Saskatchewan. We provide an atmosphere of support and camaraderie among our fellow members, emphasizing education, safety, sportsmanship and fun. We are centrally located in Saskatchewan and only twenty minutes south of Saskatoon. New members are always welcome.
