Site Development – Membership Input Request.

General Information

At this point we are requesting input from the membership to address a number of points related to the proposed change house/winter storage building described in the previous post.

Question 1:      Would you be able to commit some amount of time this winter  and next summer to help with construction of the building  yes or no?  If yes, how much time?

Question 2:      Would you be interested in renting winter boat storage space in the new building, yes or no? Allotted spaces can accommodate boats up to the size of a Laser II.   Rental period would be from Oct 30 to May 1.

Question 3:    Regardless of your response to question 2, what do you feel would be a fair per winter storage fee, $50.00, $75.00 or $100.00?

Please send you responses By the End of December to Commodore John Barry,, with the subject heading – Site Development.

Site Development – Change House Details

General Information

The Multipurpose Change House:

The Executive Committee is in the process of planning the construction of a new Multipurpose Change House for the club. Two Similar designs have been presented to the committee and are starkly different from each other regarding design differences.  Briefly they are:

  1. Building #1 : 12×24 metal clad building with no overhangs and single slant roof toward the back built on skids and set on ground.  Corrogated window panel on the south facing wall 8’ from ground.  Supplies estimate at $3500 has been obtained. For more info see earlier post online.
  1. Building #2 : 12×24 metal clad building with overhangs and a offset peaked  gable roof.   Corrugated window panel in the center of the roof vertical and taking up height change of slope. Cost estimate in the range of $6500.

The design common to both buildings will enable divided male /female change room and a ‘indoor’ storage of boats during the winter time in the building.  Details of the design and a breakdown of costs are available for consideration on the BSSC website,  There will be variance of a few hundred dollars on supplies depending on floor requirements.  Kelsey Campus has made us aware they are interested in building either plan.  BSSC members will have a more difficult time with building 2 and will take longer due to design differences.  Cost differences of BSSC members building the buildings vs Kelsey Campus is in the range of $400.  BSSC members must commit to construction time prior to Executive members proceeding with plans to have members construct the building.  A Private indoor non heated work area is available for construction.  Time frame for construction is Jan to end of April as we would like the building on site at the beginning of the year.  There will be approximately 9 construction days required for building #1 -if utilizing 4 BSSC members per day.

Change/Winter Storage House – Design Information

Building #1 Design Details: Painted Metal clad roof and wall structure that has a 7.5-10.5’ wall height.  Single slant roof that slopes from front high side to back.  There will be clear corrugated panel in the high side which faces south and is in the upper section of the wall below the roof.  The clear panel will be able to be opened for acting as venting.  The building will be on skids on gravel on the ground.  It will have two entry doors on the south wall as well as a removable 6’ wide door panel on the West wall allowing entry into the building with boats.  The divider wall will be wood and movable to the end of the building for the winter months not being used for changeroom at season closing. Estimated cost for supplies is 3500$.

More information will be posted here as it becomes available.  Please consider attending the the AGM in January for additional information and discussion on this issue.
